IndieFlix, a global offline screening and online streaming company, along with its non-profit arm, the IndieFlix Foundation, is expanding its offerings of content designed to change the world with the official debut of LIKE. From executive producer and IndieFlix Founder and CEO, Scilla Andreen, LIKE is a 47-minute documentary that explores the impact of social media on our lives and the effects of technology on the brain. The goal of the social-action, solution-focused film is to inspire and equip users to honestly evaluate and self-regulate their screen time. The film is intended for viewers ages 10+.
When we chase "likes" or seek followers, we lose sight of the fact that our devices are now using us. "Social media is impacting our lives in many unexpected ways," said Andreen, who serves as both producer and director of the film. "It affects our daily social online and offline interactions, self-esteem and brain function in ways you can't even imagine. We need to be aware of the pull it is having on us and our children. We are very excited to bring this incredibly timely topic to communities across the U.S. and BEYOND to spark honest discussions on how social media is affecting and often controlling our lives - and how we can best use technology in a healthy and productive way."
"These distraction machines that we have around us all the time makes it very, very hard to focus. I'm personally worried about a generation of kids growing up without learning, focus, patience, and how to be without their devices," said Max Stossel, Head of Education & Content, Center for Humane Technology in LIKE.
LIKE, which Andreen completed with producer and son, Ian Andreen, features a who's-who of experts from technology, medicine, mental health, and education, all providing insight and analysis on the impact of social media in today's world and on tweens, teens and adults. Personal accounts from an array of social media consumers who discuss their interactions and daily connections are woven throughout the documentary. THE EXPERTS featured in the documentary include:
Max Stossel, Head of Education for the Center for Humane Technology
Leah Pearlman, Co-Creator of Facebook "Like" Button
