The IndieFEST Film Awards recently announced its Award of Merit winners, including actor, producer, and CineFocus Productions Co-Founder Matthew Grant Godbey who was awarded two leading actor awards - one for his role as Alex in the feature film The Blame Gameand one for his role as Daniel in It Followed Me Here.
The Blame Game was directed by Godbey's CineFocus partner, Herb Kimble. The film is a thriller about an international businessman named Alex who has fallen from unparalleled success to rock bottom. Seemingly at the top of the world, the vices and temptations of success entrap Alex in a VICIOUS cycle of self-destruction which lead him to a standoff against a shadowy figure in a desolate high-rise office. His wife, Amy, reaches out to him trying to prevent him from going over the edge, but the demons haunting him end up having the last say. Godbey directed, wrote and starred in It Followed Me Here, a film about down-on-his-luck businessman Daniel, who finds himself alone, terrified, and trapped in his office as he struggles to win a deadly game to save his own life. The film was released at the Marbella Film Festival in Spain last October.
In early 2017, Godbey partnered with his acting school friend Herb Kimble to found CineFocus Productions with the intent of telling meaningful stories through the art of filmmaking. In his acting career, Godbey has starred in The Blame Game, and most recently appeared as Detective Dan Evans on NCIS Los Angeles. Godbey made his directorial debut in 2018 with It Followed Me Here, in which he also starred. The film has played in film festivals all over the world, resulting in a Best Actor nomination for Godbey at the Marbella Film Festival in Spain.
Godbey and Kimble recently produced their first foreign language film Pan de Salawal, shot in the Philippines. Pan de Salawal has received rave reviews and garnered several award nominations, most recently winning the Balanghai Trophy at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.
