Indian writer/director Shonali Bose (director of the internationally renowned film AMU) beautifully portrays the story of a luminous Indian teenager with cerebral palsy who leaves her homeland to study in New York, falls in love with a young blind woman, and begins a remarkable journey to self-discovery and independence. FILMMAKER: Shonali Bose was raised in Calcutta, Mumbai, and Delhi. She received her B.A. from Delhi University and her master's from Columbia before earning her M.F.A. at UCLA film school. She made her feature debut as writer-director with Amu, and co-wrote the feature Chittagong. Margarita, with a Straw is her latest film.
She was the first Indian to win the Sundance-Mahindra Global Film maker award for the script in 2012. Bose's debut film Amu - opened at the Berlin Film Festival followed by Toronto and many more top international film festivals. It won numerous awards including the FIPRESCI and the National Award and garnered huge critical acclaim. Bose currently lives between Los Angeles and Mumbai.
