Idris Elba is currently in talks to star in MGM's supernatural thriller "Deeper," according to Variety.
The film follows a former astronaut who was hired to take a submersible to the deepest part of the ocean. Supernatural events transpire as the vehicle gets closer to its destination. Production is expected to start this spring.
"Everest" filmmaker Baltasar Kormakur will direct the film from Max Landis, who will also produce with David Goyer, Kevin Turren, and Addictive Pictures.
Bradley Cooper was initially attached to star in the film in 2016, when MGM landed the project. Gal Gadot was also in talks to join the film's cast. That version almost went into production with "White God" director Kornel Mundruczo, but they both exited the project due to Cooper's scheduling conflicts. MGM then shelved the project until it could find the right director to come on board.
