ITV has picked up their royal drama VICTORIA for a third season, as reported by Deadline. The series was picked up after showing consistently strong ratings on the British network. The show averaged over four million views each week.
The third season will pick up where the second season left off, at the marriage of newly ascended Queen Victoria (Jenna Coleman) and Albert (Tom Hughes). Creator Daisy Goodwin revealed more details about the new season, saying it will begin in 1848 and follow a "hugely dramatic and eventful" time for the royal family as revolutions begin to rise in Europe. Goodwin claims that audiences can count on the third season having "more drama than ever before."
VICTORIA will be produced by ITV's Mammoth Screen for ITV and PBS' Masterpiece. ITV Studios Global Entertainment will stay on as international distributor. The show has been sold to over 150 countries since its debut.
Mammoth Screen boss Damien Timmer shared his excitement about the new season.
"Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes shine as Victoria and Albert and it's an honour to have them back for a third series, which covers a tumultuous period in our country's history, filled to the brim with royal scandals, political skirmishes and constitutional crises, as new historical figures enter the saga to challenge Victoria and Albert as never before," he said.
A premiere date for the highly anticipated third season has not been released yet.
