IFC announced today at its upfront press event (see attached photos) that the IFC Comedy Crib (ifc.com/comedy-crib), the network's online HUB for smart, funny short-form comedy, is joining the on-air lineup starting in the fall. Airing weekly, THE HALF HOUR late-night program will feature some of IFC's favorite comedians and sketch groups direct from the Comedy Crib alongside standalone handpicked segments from Portlandia, COMEDY BANG! BANG! and more.
"The Comedy Crib has become an important extension of our on-air lineup and a great way to bring new comedic voices and talent to fans, so it makes perfect sense to build this return path to our air for Comedy Crib content and, at the same time, establish a new late-night program on IFC," said Christine Lubrano, IFC's senior vice president of original programming. "Many of our signature shows originated as podcasts or webseries before
IFC brought them to television, so we see potential in a wide variety of formats and look forward to continuing to experiment and entertain through Comedy Crib and late-night originals on IFC."
Premiering exclusively today on IFC's Comedy Crib is the all-new webseries "Boxed In," written and directed by rising comedian Amy York Rubin. The six webisodes are Rubin's comedic take on her daily dilemmas as a "gay-ish" woman living in Los Angeles --- straight friends who give mixed signals, the ups and downs of online dating and the all-too complicated lesbian fashion-scene, are all fair game. In addition to IFC.com and the mobile app, select segments of "Boxed In" will also appear during the Comedy Crib's late night program. Watch "Boxed In" here: http://www.ifc.com/comedy-crib/boxed-in
Rubin received critical acclaim for her 2013 popular "darkly comedic" web series, "Little Horribles," which was named one of the top ten web series of the year by Variety. The triple-threat performer continues to write and direct in Los Angeles and has collaborated with comedians such as Sarah Silverman, Ilana Glazer, Kate McKinnon, and Aidy Bryant.
Since launching a year ago, the
IFC Comedy Crib has showcased over 25 exclusive webseries, including content from partners Above Average, UCB Comedy and the Annoyance Theatre, as well as original series from both established and up-and-coming comedians. With even more webseries on the horizon for 2016, the popular IFC.com destination will give visitors an endless variety of off-kilter content to binge and share.
