Hugh Laurie as been cast as the lead in an HBO comedy pilot from Armando Iannucci, according to Variety.
The pilot is titled "Avenue 5" and is described as a comedy set in the future, mostly in space. Laurie will play Ryan Clark, the charming and in-control American captain of Avenue 5.
HBO gave "Avenue 5" a pilot commitment with an order for back-up scripts. The project was created by Iannuci, who created the Emmy-winning comedy VEEP.
Laurie had guest-starred on Season 4 of VEEP as U.S. Senator Tom James, who became Selina Meyer's running mate during her campaign for president.
Laurie is best known as the lead in the hit medical drama series HOUSE, which he earned him six Emmy nominations. He most recently starred in the Hulu's CHANCE and just finished filming the CATCH-22 miniseries with Hulu,
