Deadline reports that Hugh Jackman will take on the role of Apostle Paul, an early Christian MISSIONARY also known as Saul of Tarsus in a new biblical film.
The actor will also produce the project from Warner Bros.along with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck through their production company Pearl Street Films. According to the report, the film, now in development, centers on "Paul as he grows up to become one of the most important messengers of Jesus."
In a recent article in
Parade, the 46-year-old's born-again Christian father commented of his son, "He takes his religion very seriously and would prefer I go to church. We've had discussions about our separate beliefs. I just find the evangelical church too, well, restrictive."
Jackman is set to reprise his role as Wolverine in the next installment of the franchise, hitting theaters March 2017. The actor earned a Tony Award for his Broadway debut in "The Boy From Oz" in 2004, the same year he first hosted the Tony ceremony. The international movie star returned to Broadway in the 2009 hit "A Steady Rain' opposite Daniel Craig, followed by the solo concert "Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway' in 2011. In 2012, he played the role of 'Jean Valjean' in the musical movie "LES MISERABLES." He most recenlty appeared on Broadway in THE RIVER.
