NBC Olympics will present more digital content across more platforms than ever before during the XXIII Olympic Winter Games from PyeongChang, South Korea, including 1,800 hours of live streaming coverage, enhanced streaming options for alpine skiing, FIGURE SKATING and primetime show coverage, digital exclusive programming, live clips on Snapchat, highlights on Uber, and more.
As previously announced, PyeongChang will be the first Winter Games to offer live streaming of the NBC broadcast network, including primetime and primetime-plus programming, and the first live stream of an Olympics Opening Ceremony. Digital coverage will include live streaming of all competition on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app across desktops, mobile devices, tablets, and connected TVs for authenticated users; TV simul-stream coverage of five television networks; streaming on connected TVs, a Winter Games first; and an enhanced viewing experience for select sports. In addition, Olympic fans will be able to access three digital-only programs, live streams of practices, and an active news desk that will regularly publish Olympic updates throughout each day.
Following is a summary of NBC Olympics' digital coverage of the 2018 PyeongChang Games.
ENHANCED STREAMING
One of the most exciting digital innovations for the PyeongChang Games is the new enhanced experience for viewers streaming alpine skiing, figure skating, and primetime show coverage. NBC Olympics will present alternative camera views, behind-the-scenes content, fact cards featuring Olympic trivia, live leaderboards and a Team USA tracker, as well as interactive key moments. Through the interactive key moments tool, a marker will appear at the bottom of the stream, indicating the beginning of a performance, run, game, or match if a fan joins coverage in-progress.
Behind-the-scenes content will be displayed in a minimized screen beside the main livestream feed, providing viewers with a look inside the starting gate for alpine skiing, the warm up area for FIGURE SKATING and more. Fans will be able to see the look on athletes faces seconds before they hit the slopes, or watch as a figure skater anxiously anticipates a competitor's score. The fact cards feature animated headshots of select athletes, as well as biographical information and fun facts. The Team USA tracker will let fans know exactly when the next U.S. athlete is competing, making it even easier to cheer on Team USA.
LIVE STREAMING
NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app, which are powered by NBC Sports' Playmaker Media, will deliver more than 1,800 hours of live-event and TV simul-stream coverage for the PyeongChang Olympics - including all competition sessions across all 15 sports and 102 medal events - for authenticated pay TV subscribers via TV Everywhere. The record streaming coverage will be available on desktops, mobile devices, tablets, and, for the first time for a Winter Games, connected TVs. NBC Olympics streamed 1,000 hours of coverage for the 2014 Winter Olympics, which was the first time that all Winter Olympic competition was streamed live.
NBC Olympics will stream the coverage that airs on all five NBCUniversal Olympic networks - broadcast network NBC and cable channels NBCSN, CNBC and USA, as well as the 24/7 news and highlights coverage airing on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA. Each network's TV coverage will also include athlete features, segments on the host city and country, and interviews with NEWSMAKERS and medal-winning athletes.
Every second of competition will once again be streamed by NBC Olympics online, even if certain events are not being televised at the same time.
