House of Vans Brooklyn announces additional workshop programming including a Ghostly Knowledge Share event on Saturday, June 23 as part of Vans' Summer Workshop series. Ghostly International is a music and art company supporting work of high quality, integrity, and individuality. Founded in 1999 and highlighted by The New York Times as "transcending its record label roots to sell an ethos," Ghostly International is home to cutting edge artists like Matthew Dear, Kllo, Mary Lattimore, Tadd Mullinix (Dabrye, JTC), Starchild & The New Romantic, Tycho, and more.
Beginning in the early afternoon, students of all ages will be welcomed into House of Vans to choose from a handful of workshops led by Ghostly artists Matthew Dear, Michna, Lauren Flax, Heathered Pearls, and Nitemoves.
The Ghostly International Workshop schedule will include:
1:00 PM - House of Vans Brooklyn Doors Open
1:30 PM - Intro to artists & Ghostly International Team
2:00 PM - Artist Talks: Home Recording Technique, Beat + Vocal Collaborating
2:30 PM - Introduction to independent Music Business and Artist Workshops (DJing 101, Sound Manipulation)
3:45 PM - Speed Mentoring
Beginning at 6 p.m., House of Vans will also celebrate the 35th anniversary of "Style Wars" with a special screening of the documentary that examines how creativity manifests and the support and resistance that culture meets in NYC. After the screening, 'Style Wars' producer Henry Chalfant, graffiti and art legend Lee Quiõnes, DJ Stretch Armstrong, and Brujas co-founder, Arianna Gil will discuss what we can do to foster the next generation, drawing upon leaders from pivotal aspects of culture in the last 30 years.
