On the heels of his brother's death, Robert F. KENNEDY wrote a poignant letter to his then twelve-year-old daughter, Kathleen. This letter is among a trove of artifacts that have been in the possession of the KENNEDY family since Robert F. Kennedy's untimely death. In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of that fateful day in 1968, Kennedy's children will share their memories and rare personal artifacts in HISTORY's new, one-hour documentary event, "RFK: The KENNEDY Family Remembers," premiering on Monday, June 4 at 10PM ET/PT.
Out of personal tragedy and against the tumult of the 1960s, Robert F. KENNEDY transformed himself into a great political figure of U.S. history with significant potential and extreme promise; a man whose vision of a brighter tomorrow captured the hopes and dreams of a generation torn apart by the fears and violence of a DIVIDED nation. Kennedy's words and actions inspired a generation to fight for peace and justice, but what was it like to learn from and live with this heroic leader?
"RFK: The KENNEDY Family Remembers" features rare archival footage and exclusive new, emotional interviews with the KENNEDY children. Kerry Kennedy, Kathleen KENNEDY Townshend, and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. reveal previously untold stories of the passions and principles that fueled their father as he rose to prominence and captured the hopes and dreams of a generation. Additionally, Kennedy's former insiders and noted historians such as Jeff Greenfield and Barbara Perry, among others, lift the veil on key moments in Kennedy's life - from the employment of his masterful strategy during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 to the courage he showed combatting the racist powers of the Jim Crow South alongside other agents of change such as Martin LUTHER King Jr.
"RFK: The KENNEDY Family Remembers" is a searing, intimate portrait of Robert F. KENNEDY as he transforms into the political stalwart whose vision of America - of equality and justice for all - continues to resonate in our own DIVIDED world today. The documentary also features rare archival footage and photos from Kennedy's trip to South AFRICA to battle Apartheid, and his war on poverty in Mississippi and Brooklyn. The epic breadth of Kennedy's life sparks one of history's most enduring questions: what impact would a Robert F. KENNEDY presidency have had on our country and why does his legacy remain so relevant today?
"RFK: The KENNEDY Family Remembers" is produced for HISTORY by A+E Originals. Steve Ascher, Kristy Sabat and Anthony Lappé serve as executive producers for A+E Originals. Kristen Burns is executive producer for HISTORY. A+E Networks holds worldwide distribution rights for "RFK: The KENNEDY Family Remembers."
