Harris Center Presents A Conversation with Danny Glover  Image

Folsom Lake College welcomes actor, producer and humanitarian Danny Glover to the Harris Center in a lecture moderated by KFBK's Kitty O'Neal. A commanding presence on screen, stage, and television for more than 25 years, Danny Glover's film credits range from the blockbuster LETHAL WEAPON franchise to the Oscar-nominated hit Dreamgirls, to smaller independent features - some of which Glover also produced. THE SON of civil rights activists, he has gained respect and renown for his wide-reaching community activism and philanthropic efforts, and currently serves as an Ambassador for UNICEF.

The final lecture in the 2018-19nFolsom Lake College Speakers Series, A Conversation with Danny Glover will take place on Stage One in the Harris Center Monday, April 29, 2019 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $32-$58; Premium $68; Students with ID $12. Tickets are available online atwww.harriscenter.net or from Harris Center Ticket Office at 916-608-6888 from 12 noon to 6 pm, Monday through Saturday, and two hours before show time. Parking is included in the price of the ticket. Harris Center is located on the west side of Folsom Lake College campus in Folsom, CA, facing East Bidwell Street.

Glover has gained respect for his wide-reaching community activism and philanthropic efforts, with a particular emphasis on advocacy for economic justice and access to health care and education programs in the United States and Africa. For these efforts, Glover received a 2006 DGA Honor and was honored with a 2011 "Pioneer Award" from the National Civil Rights Museum. Internationally, Glover has served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Program from 1998-2004, focusing on issues of poverty, disease and economic development in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Currently, Glover serves as Ambassador for the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent.

Glover starred in Almost Christmas for Universal Studios, and will play Grandpa Allen in The Last Black Man in San Francisco (directed by Joe Talbot), to be released this summer. He was also seen in Rage co-starring Nicolas Cage, BEYOND the Lights and the independent Complete Unknown. He most recently co- starred in the highly-acclaimed feature film The Old Man & The Gun opposite Robert Redford and in the filmsProud Mary opposite Taraji P. Henson and Come Sunday with Chewitel Ejiofor, and also appeared in Sorry to Bother You. He is currently filmingJumanji: Welcome to The Jungle co-starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black and Danny DeVito.

In 2005, Glover co-founded NY-based Louverture Films with writer/producer Joslyn Barnes and more recent partners, Susan Rockefeller and the Bertha Foundation. The company is dedicated to the development and production of films of historical relevance, social purpose, commercial value and artistic integrity. Among the films Glover has executive or co- produced at Louverture are the Academy Award®-nominated and Emmy-winning Strong Island, ZAMA by Lucrecia Martel, and this year's Oscar® nominated documentary Hale County This Morning, This Evening by RaMell Ross and Oscar® nominated Best Foreign Language Film Capernaum by Nadine Labaki.

Kitty O'Neal anchors the highly rated and award winning KFBK Afternoon News from 4 to 7 pm, a show she has hosted for over 20 years. She has had many coveted news assignments including covering a Presidential inauguration, the Grammy Awards, and 25 Academy Award ceremonies. Kitty's television credits include three years on KOVR 13 as entertainment reporter and host of the weekly real estate show Home TV, which ran for ten years. Kitty donates much of her time and talent to community events and charitable organizations, serving on the boards of The California Museum, The Sacramento SPCA, and the local chapter of The SALVATION Army.

The Harris Center for the Arts at Folsom Lake College brings the community together to share in cultural experiences featuring the work of artists from throughout the region and around the world. Built and operated by the Los Rios Community College District, the $50 million, state-of-the-art regional performing arts center boasts three intimate venues with outstanding acoustics, an art gallery, a recording studio, elegant teaching spaces, plenty of safe parking and all the other amenities of a world-class performing arts venue. Each year the Center hosts over 400 events attracting more than 150,000 annually.
