HBO's JOHN MCCAIN: FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS to Screen Ahead of Premiere at the Jacob Burns Film Center  Image

For those who are having a "staycation" this Memorial Day, the Jacob Burns Film Center (Pleasantville, NY) invites all to join them on Monday, May 28th for the screening of the new HBO documentary John McCain: For Whom the Bell Tolls. The documentary was produced and directed by six-time Emmy winner Peter Kunhardt and Emmy winners George and Teddy Kunhardt. Following the screening will be a Q&A with Peter and Teddy Kunhardt, who will be onsite for select interviews.

The film will also make its debut on HBO later that evening. Please find further information on the filmmakers below.

Step into the life of John McCain, a man who has beaten death more than once, has risen from the ashes and has accomplished so much politically. John McCain: For Whom the Bell Tolls is a biographical profile of one of the most influential forces in modern American politics, Arizona Senator John McCain. A former Navy pilot who was shot down in Vietnam and spent over five years in a POW camp, McCain returned to forge a career as one of our country's most passionate and formidable members of Congress. Now 81, the six-term Republican senator and two-time presidential candidate sat down for interviews just a few weeks after being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017. The film also features interviews with family, friends and leading political figures including former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, former Vice President Joe Biden, former Senators Hillary Clinton, John Kerry and Joe Lieberman, among others.

Peter Kunhardt recently directed King in the Wilderness, Becoming Warren Buffett and Living with Lincoln. He and two of his sons run Kunhardt Films, which has produced, among others, The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross; Jim: The James Foley Story; Gloria: In Her Own Words; Nixon by Nixon: In His Own Words; and Teddy: In His Own Words. Kunhardt has won 6 Emmys, a Peabody Award, an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award, and an NAACP Image Award.

Teddy Kunhardt is an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker whose previous film, The Newspaperman: The Life and Times of Ben Bradlee, earned him a 2017 PGA nomination. Past producing credits include King in the Wilderness, Becoming Warren Buffett, Jim: The James Foley Story, and Living with Lincoln. He served as co-producer on Nixon by Nixon, Makers: Women Who Make America, and associate producer on Gloria: In Her Own Words and Teddy: In His Own Words.
