HBO Teams With Community Organizations for Photo Gallery Experience on NYC's High Line

On Thursday, September 29, in anticipation of the October 3 premiere of the HBO documentary Class Divide, HBO will open a weekend-long photo gallery experience on the High Line on New York City's West Side. Paralleling the film's themes, "Views From the Block" will display artful photography sourced from young residents of the West Chelsea neighborhoodthe neighborhood showcased in the film.

Class Divide highlights the recent effects of gentrification in New York City's West Chelsea neighborhood, focusing on an intersection where a private school sits directly across from public housing. In a film about economic forces affecting ordinary people, from director Marc Levin and producing partner Daphne Pinkerson, this moving chronicle bears witness to the effects of rising inequality and stagnant class mobility.

"Views From the Block" will express young residents' definitions of community, income inequality, gentrification, family, friendship and education. In collaboration with Street Dreams Magazine, Hudson Guild, Avenues: The World School and Friends of the High Linethe non-profit caretakers of the park"Views From the Block" will allow guests to take an exclusive look at the photography while visiting the High Line.

Prior to the opening of the art gallery, popular NYC-based photography collective Street Dreams Magazine will lead a series of free workshops to teach students the fundamentals of photographyfrom camera care to framing and editing. Workshops will run through September and will include young adult participants selected by Hudson Guild, a multi-service community agency focused on the Chelsea area and Avenues: The World School.

The "Views From the Block" exhibition will open with a private preview event on Thursday, September 29, before officially opening to the public in the 14th Street Passage on the High Line on Friday, September 30 through Sunday, October 2 from 9AM-9PM.
