Variety reports that HBO has given a pilot order for a new half-hour comedy to titled BARRY. SNL alum Bill Hader will star and direct the project he co-wrote, and will executive produce the pilot with "Silicon Valley's Alex Berg.
The pilot will follow "an ex-Marine (Hader) who works as a low-rent hitman in the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life, he begrudgingly travels to Los Angeles to kill someone and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the LA theater scene."
Hader most recently appeared on the big screen opposite Amy Schumer in the critically acclaimed film TRAINWRECK. He co-created the IFC series "Documentary Now!," and recently made a guest appearance on FOX's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine."
