Variety is reporting that Amanda Bynes is set to star in the new ABC pilot "Canned." Bynes plays Sarabeth, a "naive Midwesterner who's being exploited by her boss - and doesn't realize it".
"Canned" revolves around a group of friends who are all fired on the same day. ABC Studios and Brillstein Ent. Partners are behind the comedy project.
Bynes' feature credits include "Hairspray," "She's the Man," "Big Fat Liar" and "What a Girl Wants." On TV, she starred in the Nickelodeon series "All That" and "The Amanda Show," in addition to "What I Like About You" for the WB. She also appeared in The Lifetime telepic "Living Proof."
Tim Peper, Stephanie Lemelin and Baron Vaughn are also among the cast. Bynes who shot to fame on Nickelodeon's "All That"
The film version of Hairspray was directed by Adam Shankman (The Pacifier, Bringing Down the House) and produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, for their Zadan/Meron Productions, which previously executive produced the Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning Best Picture Chicago.
Hairspray was originally based on the 1988 John Waters comedy about a teenager who finds stardom on a local Baltimore dance show--which she helps to racially integrate. The new version of the film was adapted from New Line's hit Broadway version of the film, which debuted in 2002, and went on to win eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book and Best Director.
