Earlier today, the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress published a list of 25 films to be added to the list of over 500 respected movies dating back to 1891. As specified by the National Film Preservation Act, the Library of Congress names 25 movies every year to the registry that are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically" significant.  The movies do not need to be feature-length, or even have had a theatrical release; however they do need to be at least 10 years old.

The registry includes films representing several genres, including documentaries, shorts and even animated pictures.  Previously honored movies include 'Beauty and the Beast,' 'Cabaret,' '42nd Street' and 'The Wizard of Oz.'

This year's list includes films by directors Spike Lee, George Lucas, Alan Pakula and many more acclaimed people. Below is the full list of selected films; for further reading please see this article released by The Hollywood Reporter.
