Michael Grandinetti is pulling out all the stops when he returns for his fifth season as one of the stars of the hit CW series "Masters of Illusion". Always determined to top himself, in this year's season premiere event, Michael will perform a never before seen illusion in which he visibly saws himself in half, with no cover, in front of 300 onlookers live in Hollywood. The audience and even the show's production team were surprised by this illusion, which will air in the episode on July 6 at 8:00pm.
And, this is just one of the new effects Michael is bringing to homes across America this summer.
Named by Entertainment Weekly as "a great magician who can truly communicate with a TV audience", "a fan favorite" by Hidden Remote, and "the one to watch in magic in 2018" by Digital Journal, Michael Grandinetti has become a popular performer on the show since its 2014 premiere and over the past four seasons.
He's also made a name for himself around the world with such stunning feats as levitating 10ft into the air in an NFL stadium while surrounded by 70,000 people, escaping from between walls of flaming steel spikes before they flew towards him at over 50mph, causing a 200 piece symphony orchestra to read the minds of an audience and play songs random audience members only thought of, and even making a 20ft wide American Flag appear on the White House Lawn for Easter. Michael was also the first illusionist ever invited to appear in the National Independence Day Parade in Washington DC, where he levitated a girl high above a float as it moved down Constitution Avenue as 250,000 people lined the streets. This is magic on a major scale.
However, Michael's television performances have him especially excited. Over the years, Michael has also been featured on NBC's "The World's Most Dangerous Magic", POP's "Don't Blink", FOX's "Bones", Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, The Bold and the Beautiful, and several other programs. "I love being able to share my passion for magic with as many people as possible," Michael said. "It's also a fun challenge, every year, to try to improve on our work from the past and to create new magic for our touring and TV shows. I can't wait for everyone to see our latest illusions this summer, we pushed hard to make this our best magic yet."
Currently airing in over 100 countries around the world and hosted by actor Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), MASTERS OF ILLUSION is a show the entire family can enjoy, with weekly illusions, escapes, comedy magic, sleight of hand, and more, all performed before a live audience. A few of the new surprises Michael has in store for this season include:
Razor Slicer - Sawing Michael in Half
In this brand new twist on one of magic's classics, Michael visibly saws himself in half with a 24" razor sharp steel blade and then divides his body in two, with no cover whatsoever. As he continues to smile and interact with the audience, he is restored, unharmed.
The World's Largest Cards
Michael shares the story of his first visit to a magic store as a child, with a fun interactive routine using cards that are nearly 3ft tall!
Rings Through An Audience Member
In this surprising effect, Michael passes three solid, examined, polished steel rings right through the arm of a volunteer from the audience. This one has to be seen to be believed!
Steel and Glass Metamorphosis
Magic, drama, and danger collide in Michael's extremely unique version of Houdini's Metamorphosis illusion, as he attempts to instantly change places with a beautiful dancer while secured to a steel wall, with solid chains, cloth ties, and large shards of broken glass.
Magic Up-Close
While standing in the center of the audience, with onlookers on all sides and the camera just inches away, Michael attempts to visibly turn a borrowed dollar bill inside out.
In addition to his annual TV appearances, 2018 has kept Michael busy with a non-stop schedule of live shows in cities including Kansas City, MO, Raleigh, NC (Durham Performing Arts Center), Salt Lake City, UT (Utah Jazz Halftime Show at Vivant Smart Home Arena), Long Island, NY (Paramount Theater), and Rochester, NY where Michael was the featured guest artist at Kodak Hall in a special performance with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
Masters of Illusion is produced by Associated Television International, with executive producers David McKenzie (The 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards," "Marie"), Al Schwartz (The 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards," "The Golden Globe Awards" 2013 & 2014, "The Gulf is Back"), Gay Blackstone ("The World Magic Awards 2007-2009) and David Martin ("Marie"), along with co-executive producers Justin Pierce ("The Rocky Saga: Going the Distance") and Jim Romanovich ("Inside Story: Ferris Bueller's Day Off"). Sony Pictures Television will handle the show's international distribution.
