In the biggest education event of the 2012 presidential campaign, Governor Mitt Romney will share his vision for the nation's education future and what it will take to prepare all Americans for the high-skill jobs of the 21st century, as well as answer questions from "Education Nation" Summit attendees. NBC News' BrIan Williams will host the Republican presidential candidate for "DECISION 2012 at Education Nation" today, Sept. 25 at 11:00AM/ET from The New York Public Library's Stephen A. Schwarzman building. This special event will be broadcast live on MSNBC, featured on "NBC Nightly News" and "TODAY," as well as streamed live on NBCNews.comandEducationNation.com.
"Governor Romney realizes that education is the civil rights issues of our time, and as president, he will be committed to ensuring that all students, no matter their zip code or socioeconomic status, have the chance for an excellent education and a bright future. He also realizes that a great education system is a key to getting our economy back on track. Mitt Romney will reverse the current course that our K-12 education system is on, lagging behind many countries in reading, math, and science, and preserve our status as the leader in higher education. Mitt Romney knows that global competitiveness begins in the classroom, and he will implement policies that promote increased choice for families, great teachers, and affordable post-secondary education that will ensure that America is the world's leader in education," said Gail Gitcho, Communications Director for the Romney campaign.
"As we approach the final weeks of the presidential election, it's an important time as ever for Americans to know who and what they're voting for, especially when it comes to education," said NBC News President Steve Capus. "On the 'Education Nation' stage, we'll hear firsthand from Governor Romney about his plan to shape the future of our education system, our workforce and our country's competitiveness."
The 2012 "Education Nation" Summit will be centered on solutions– highlighting case studies of schools and programs around the country that have seen incredible success in their communities from the implementation of focused solutions. Other agenda topics include: STEM, the achievement gap, corporate investment in education, social gaming in schools, grit and persistence, union-district partnerships, the college loan crisis, common core, parent engagement strategies, the U.S. presidential election's impact on education in America, and more.
Since launching the initiative in 2010, NBC News has established "Education Nation" as the country's largest public conversation about the relationship between education and opportunity – helping to engage the United States in an unprecedented discussion about how to improve education...
