Dick Clark productions and ABC announced today that singer, songwriter, producer and musician Bruno Mars will open the 2016 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS. The "2016 American Music Awards," the world's biggest fan-voted award show, will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20, at 8:00 p.m. EST on ABC.
This marks
Bruno Mars' first performance on
THE AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS stage. In 2011, he took home the trophy for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, and has been nominated seven times throughout his career.
Mars recently released his brand new single "24K Magic," which debuted this week at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Mars' highest debut to date and his 13th Hot 100 Top 10. Mars is set to release his highly anticipated third album, "24K Magic," on November 18th.
Bruno Mars is a 20-time Grammy Award nominee and multi-Grammy winner. The critically acclaimed singer, songwriter, producer, musician has sold over 170 million singles worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. Mars most recently dominated charts with hit single "Uptown Funk." The worldwide smash is the longest-leading Billboard Hot 100 single of the 2010s, and is only the 10th single in the Hot 100's 57-year history to spend at least 14 weeks at Number 1. The nominations for the "2016 American Music Awards" were announced earlier this month, revealing that Drake leads with 13 nominations, while
Rihanna received seven and Adele and
Justin Bieber received five nominations each. Beyoncé and
The Chainsmokers each received four nominations. Additionally, Bryson Tiller, Twenty One Pilots,
Carrie Underwood,
Fetty Wap and
The Weeknd earned three nominations each.
The Artist of the Year nominees are Adele, Beyoncé,
Justin Bieber, Drake,
Selena Gomez,
Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Twenty One Pilots,
Carrie Underwood and The Weeknd. The ten nominees will be narrowed to five based on the votes received through Monday, November 14, at 8:59:59 a.m. PST. Voting for Artist of the Year will close on Thursday, November 17, at 8:59:59 p.m. PST. The winner will be determined by the total votes received throughout the entire voting period.
Nominees for New Artist of the Year Un-leashed by T-Mobile are Alessia Cara, The Chainsmokers, DNCE,
Shawn Mendes and Zayn. Voting for this category opens November 2.
American Music Awards nominees are based on key fan interactions as reflected in Billboard Magazine and on Billboard.com, including album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, social activity and touring. These measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound.

AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS winners are voted entirely by fans. Voting is now open in all categories except New Artist of the Year Un-leashed by T-Mobile, which will open on November 2nd.
