The MISS AMERICA Organization (MAO) announced today that Global Road Entertainment will join MAO and Tall Pony Productions (Tall Pony) in producing "The 2019 MISS AMERICA Competition," airing live from Atlantic City, SUNDAY, SEPT. 9 (9:00 - 11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC.
Award-winning producer Phil Gurin, the company's president of Unscripted & Alternative Television, will join the team serving as an executive producer assisting with the creative development and execution of a modern show relevant to a global audience.
"It is such an honor to be part of the team launching MISS AMERICA 2.0 this September," stated Gurin. "As we reimagine this storied franchise, it's exciting to offer a new and empowering platform for these strong, female leaders to shine."
As one of the industry's leading independent creators, producers and distributors of non-scripted television, Gurin has been responsible for executive producing, creating and writing thousands of hours of television across multiple genres including live event, game, music, hidden camera, comedy, clip show, factual, dramatic re-enactment, docu-soaps and formatted reality. Gurin's shows have aired on every major U.S. broadcast network, many cable networks and in over 150 countries around the world. He has won four Primetime Emmy® Awards as an executive producer on ABC's "Shark Tank"; an international Rose d'Or (Golden Rose) for the comedy game show "Oh Sit!," which he co-created for The CW; and "The Singing Bee" (NBC & CMT), one of the top 30 most-produced original formats in the world.
The announcement of Gurin and Global Road Entertainment's involvement in the production follows the recent announcement that the swimsuit competition will be retired and that evening wear will be given more of a purpose with candidates showcasing the beauty of their intelligence while being free to choose evening wear that represents their personal style.
"As The MISS AMERICA Organization moves into executing the MISS AMERICA 2.0 mission of preparing great women for the world and preparing the world for great women, we are fortunate to have individuals and companies of such experience, talent and vision working together to create an amazing show!" said Regina Hopper, MAO's president and CEO.
Global Road's TV division recently announced a co-development deal with Reginald Hudlin and Byron Phillips under their New Nation Networks banner; a co-development joint venture with French powerhouse production company Newen, and leading Ukrainian media group FILM.UA Group; and co-production development deals with award-winning format-focused production company Spark Media, factual entertainment production company Double Yellow TV, and Denise Harrop's 3 Magic Monkeys. In addition to longstanding co-development collaborations with CBC (Canada) and Fuji (Japan), along with a robust slate of original development and upcoming commissions, Global Road's television division is positioned to become a major content provider.
