TV Guide reports that Gillian Anderson will depart her iconic role of Dana Scully on THE X-FILES following the upcoming 11th season. The actress tells the magazine, "I've said from the beginning this is it for me."
At last October's New York Comic Con, the Emmy winning actress hinted that the 10-episode season, premiering January 3rd on FOX, could be her last. "I was a bit surprised by people's [shocked] reaction to my announcement," she tells TV Guide, "because my understanding was that this was a single season."
While this may be the last that fans see of Scully, series creator Chris Carter tells viewers that the show may very well continue on. "There are a lot more X-Files stories to tell," he tells TV Guide. "Whether we get to tell them is a question mark."
