George Lucas to Retire From Filmmaking

In a recent interview with The New York Times, Star Wars creator George Lucas revealed that he is planning to retire from producing movies through his Production Company LucasFilm. The award-winning filmmaker's most recent film, the World War II drama 'Red Tails' will be released in theaters on January 20th. Revealed Lucas, "I'm retiring. I'm moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff."

Rick McCallum, the filmmaker's producing partner confirmed the news,noting that Lucas has "done everything he's ever wanted to do."

Lucas confirmed that he would no longer be involved in any future films involving the Star Wars franchise. "Why would I make any more, when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?" questioned the filmmaker. "On the internet, all those same guys that are complaining I made a change are completely changing the movie. I'm saying: 'Fine. But my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it.'"

A 3-D version of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace is set to be re-released in theaters beginning February 9th.
