According to The New York Times, venerable newsman Charlie Rose and talk show host Gayle King will be joining CBS's THE EARLY SHOW, which has recently been undergoing substantial changes.

Details of the newly revamped two-hour morning show will be revealed next Tuesday, according to the report. The network plans to follow a more tradtional approach to their morning show by placing emphasis on the day's most important hard news stories. In the past, CBS has struggled to keep up with their competitors, 'Good Morning America' on ABC and 'Today' on NBC. Jeff Fager, who recently took over as CBS News is hoping to lead the new morning show in a more serious direction.

Current hosts Erica Hill and Jeff Glor will be joined by Rose and King at the beginning of 2012. The news show will air from an all new set currently being built on the West side of Manhattan.

In the past, CBS has made unsuccessful attempts to compete in the morning news race.  Bryant Gumbel was hired in 1999, but did little to boost the network ratings.  Just one year ago, CBS cleaned house by letting go of its entire team of morning hosts and replacing them with Erica Hill. There is skeptism among those in the news industry as to whether Rose and King will draw in the kind of ratings that  CBS is hoping for.

The network has not yet commented on the upcoming changes and it has not been disclosed as to whether the  the name "The Early Show" will remain once its new co-hosts join the team.
