(2) PITTSBURGH PENGUINS AT (1) WASHINGTON CAPITALS - GAME 7 TONIGHT AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
Washington will attempt to vanquish ghosts of Game 7s past and advance to the Eastern Conference Final for the first time since 1998 with a win tonight against the Penguins. The Capitals are 4-10 all-time in Game 7s, including 0-3 against the Penguins (1992, 1995, and 2009). Washington carries momentum into this Game 7, following a 4-2 win at home in Game 5, and a dominant 5-2 win in Pittsburgh in Game 6. Nicklas Backstrom, Andre Burakovsky, T.J. Oshie, and Evgeny Kuznetsov each recorded two points in the Game 6 win. This marks Washington's first Game 7 with "Mr. Game 7" Justin Williams. Williams is 7-0 all-time in Game 7s, and has recorded 7 goals and 7 assists in those games.
Pittsburgh defeated Washington 6-2 in their most recent Game 7 showdown in 2009. Sidney Crosby recorded three points in that win, which propelled the Penguins to a Stanley Cup victory that season. Today marks the one-year anniversary of Game 6 of last year's Pens-Caps second-round series, which Pittsburgh won in overtime to eliminate Washington.
Pittsburgh is 8-7 all-time in Game 7s, and 5-0 on the road in those games, the best road Game 7 record among all major professional franchises. The winning team will face Ottawa in the Eastern Conference Final.
2) EDMONTON OILERS AT (1) ANAHEIM DUCKS - GAME 7 TONGHT AT 10 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
The Ducks are hosting a Game 7 at home in the postseason for the fifth consecutive year. Anaheim has lost its last five Game 7s since 2009, and has lost four consecutive Game 7s at home the previous four postseasons. All four of those Game 7s losses were preceded by a Game 6 loss on the road, including their most recent 7-1 loss in Edmonton in Game 6 on Sunday. Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf, who is third in the NHL in points this postseason (15), has not scored a goal in six career Game 7s (1-5 record).
Leon Draisaitl recorded five points (3g/2a) in Edmonton's Game 6 blowout victory, and has recorded 16 points in his last eight games. Connor McDavid has registered a point in four of six games in this series. Only nine skaters on Edmonton's roster have played in a Game 7, led by Milan Lucic (9 GP), who has six points (4g/2a) in those games. The winning team will face NASHVILLE in the Western Conference Final.
