GOODFELLA's Team Irwin Winkler and Nicholas Pileggi to Write THE FIVE FAMILIES Series for Discovery

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Irwin Winkler and Nicholas Pileggi have signed on to write Discovery's first scripted drama. Titled, The Five Familes, the drama series will follow the five mafia families of New York- Gambino, Genovese, Lucchese, Bonanno and Colombo.

The storyline will follow "true occurrences that occurred during the Reign of the most notorious crime families in the city."

Winkler and Pileggi previously collaborated on Goodfellas. Winkler also wrote The Wolf of Wall Street, The Mechanic and Rocky Balboa. Pileggi wrote the ppilot for Vegas in 2012, as well as American Gangster and City Hall.
