Season to date, "GMA" stands as the No. 1 morning news program for the 2nd straight year in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. "GMA" is leading NBC's "Today" by 708,000 Total Viewers and 59,000 Adults 25-54. In fact, "GMA" has widened its Total Viewer season lead over "Today" versus the same point last season by 37% (708,000 vs. 518,000) to post its largest season margin in more than 22 years - since at least the 1991-92 season; Nielsen's electronic database started on September of 1991.
Growing for the 3rd year in a row, "GMA" is up over the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+12%) and Adults 25-54 (+11%). In fact, "GMA" is seeing its largest overall season audience in more than 22 years and best Adults 25-54 performance in 8 years - since before the 1991-92 season and the 2005-06 seasons, respectively.
ABC News' "Good Morning America" finished as the No. 1 morning newscast in Total Viewers (5.572 million) for the week of December 16, 2013, according to Nielsen Media Research. Standing as the most-watched morning newscast in all 13 weeks this season, "GMA" outperformed NBC's "Today" (5.235 million) during the week by 337,000 Total Viewers. In Adults 25-54, "GMA" finished in a virtual tie for first with "Today," as only 18,000 news demo viewers separated the two programs (2.196 million vs. 2.214 million), while tying in rating (1.8).
"GMA" has ranked No. 1 every week in Total Viewers for 17 months (the last 70 weeks - since w/o 8/13/12). "GMA's" 70 consecutive weeks at the top represents its longest stretch at No. 1 in more than 22 years - since before the 1991-92 season; Nielsen's electronic database started in September 1991.
For the 5th week running, "GMA" saw across-the-board gains on the year-ago week: Total Viewers (+7%), Adults 25-54 (+11%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%) - 5.194 million, 1.972 million and 1.441 million, respectively, on w/o 12/17/12.
During the week, "GMA" nearly doubled the performance of "CBS This Morning" in Total Viewers (+83%), Adults 25-54 (+96%) and Adults 18-49 (+85%).
"Good Morning America Saturday"
"Good Morning, America - Saturday" ranked as the No. 1 morning newscast on Saturday in both Total Viewers (4.481 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.629 million) on December 21, 2013, according to Nielsen Media Research. Taking the top spot in all 13 Saturdays of the season, "GMA" has ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers for the last 25 weeks and for the last 21 weeks in Adults 25-54.
"GMA-Saturday" surged on the year-ago week in both Total Viewers (+33%) and Adults 25-54 (+49%) - 3.372 million and 1.096 million, respectively, on 12/22/12. "GMA-Saturday" saw the largest year-to-year increase in Adults 25-54 compared to "CBS This Morning: Saturday" (+15%) and
NBC "Saturday Today" (+10%). Further, "GMA-Saturday" has improved on the same week last year in all 13 Saturdays of the season in Total Viewers and in 11 of 13 in Adults 25-54
"GMA-Saturday" beat NBC's "Today-Saturday" in both Total Viewers (+418,000) and Adults 25-54 (+196,000).
"GMA - Saturday" nearly doubled the performance of "CBS This Morning: Saturday" in Total Viewers (+94%), while more than doubling in Adults 25-54 (+138%).
Season to date, "GMA-Saturday" ranks as the No. 1 morning news program in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. "GMA-Saturday" is leading NBC's "Saturday Today" (849,000 and 293,000, respectively) and "CBS This Morning: Saturday" (2.342 million and 818,000, respectively) in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 by its largest-ever advantages in both measures. "GMA-Saturday" debuted in its current format in September 2004.
Growing for the 3rd consecutive year, "GMA-Saturday" has increased over the same point last season by double digits in both Total Viewers (+21%) and Adults 25-54 (+16%). In fact, season to date, "GMA-Saturday" is delivering is strongest season ever in both Total Viewers (4.274 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.438 million). Further, "GMA-Saturday" is up the most in overall viewers and is the only newscast to grow in the key adult news demo versus "CBS This Morning: Saturday" (+11%/-1%) and
NBC "Saturday Today" (-4%/-6%).
"Good Morning America Sunday"
"Good Morning America-Sunday" averaged 4.041 million Total Viewers and a 1.338 million in Adults 25-54 on December 22, 2013, according to Nielsen Media Research.
For the 3rd week in a row, "GMA-Sunday" posted strong double-digit increases year to year in both Total Viewers (+34%) and Adults 25-54 (+44%) - 3.006 million and 931,000, respectively, on 12/23/12. Further, "GMA-Sunday" stood as the only network newscast to build on the year-ago Sunday in both measures as CBS' "Sunday Morning (+2%/-1%) and
NBC "Sunday Today" (+6%/flat) were both mixed.
Also for the 3rd straight week, "GMA-Sunday" outdelivered NBC's "Today-Sunday" in both Total Viewers (+246,000) and Adults 25-54 (+108,000).
Season to date, "GMA-Sunday" has improved over the same point last season by double digits in both Total Viewers (+16%) and Adults 25-54 (+10%). In fact, "GMA-Sunday" is enjoying its strongest season ever in both measures (3.638 million and 1.141 million, respectively). "GMA-Sunday" debuted in its current format in September 2004. In addition, "GMA-Sunday" is up the most in both measures compared to CBS' "Sunday Morning" (+6%/-1%) and
NBC "Sunday Today" (+13%/+7%).
Further, "GMA" is beating NBC's "Sunday Today" for the first time during a season in both Total Viewers (+50,000) and Adults 25-54 (+19,000).
