At yesterday's Elle's Women in Hollywood gala, Glee star Naya Rivera responded to the question as to whether she believed her character, sassy Santana Lopez, should get her own spin-off series, with a simple answer, "Duh."
She went on to say that her character "can do anything. That's the beauty of Santana."
Just last week, Glee creator and co-writer Ryan Muryphy confirmed the news that the next season of the FOX musical dramedy would be its last. Reacting to the report of the show's end, Rivera told E! Online, "We always kind of knew that. We've had an amazing run on this show, and so whenever it ends, it has to end. Unfortunately, it can't Go On forever. But I'm just really grateful that I was on it for this long."
Based on recent ratings for GLEE, a Santana spin-off seems highly unlikely. The season's first two episodes, a musical tribute to The Beatles delivered 5.2 million and 4.5 million viewers, respectively. The third episode, a tribute to late Glee star Cory Monteith, fared a bit better with 7.5 million viewers, however the bump up could be attributed to the sad circumstances surrounding Monteith's passing.
