Braddock Films Inc. is pleased announce that over 80 PBS affiliates nationwide will be screening "Ghosts of Amistad: In the Footsteps of the Rebels." Check your local PBS station and go to their online schedule to find out when the film will be aired in your area. Several states, Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Oregon, New Hampshire and Utah, all PBS affiliates, will air the film.

"Ghosts of Amistad," a documentary by award-winning director Tony Buba, is based on Marcus Rediker's "The Amistad Rebellion: An Atlantic Odyssey of Slavery and Freedom" (Viking-Penguin, 2012). It chronicles a trip to Sierra Leone in 2013 to visit the home villages of the people who seized the slave schooner Amistad in 1839, to interview elders about local memory of the case, and to search for the long-lost ruins of Lomboko, the slave trading factory where their cruel transatlantic voyage began. The film uses the knowledge of villagers, fishermen and truck drivers to recover a lost history from below in the struggle against slavery.

The American Historical Association has awarded the John E. O'Connor Prize to "Ghosts of Amistad" as the best historical documentary of 2015. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Harvard University says: "This film is an imaginative attempt to explore the impact of the Amistad Mutiny and the repatriation of the brave Africans to their homes in Sierra Leone. It is of great interest to any student of slavery and the slave trade."

"Ghosts of Amistad" is based on Marcus Rediker's 2012 book "The Amistad Rebellion." Marcus is Distinguished Professor of Atlantic History at the University of Pittsburgh. His writings have won numerous awards and been published in 14 languages.

Director Tony Buba's work has been showcased in one-person shows at The Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and more than 100 museums and universities. His awards include fellowships from the Rockefeller and Guggenheim Foundations, Alfred I. duPontColumbia University Award and Pennsylvania Media Artist of the Year.
