Narrating the inaugural match between León and Santos will be the inestimable Andrés Cantor, accompanied by veteran commentator Sammy Sadovnik and three-time top Mexican scorer Carlos Hermosillo.
León's lineup will include four new faces: Mexican midfielder Jorge Enríquez and Argentina's Juan Cuevas, Germán Cano and Maximiliano Morález. Fresh from Atalanta in Italy, Morález will take the place of Carlos "Gullit" Peña, who was transferred last month to Chivas de Guadalajara.
León ended the last season of regular play in third place in the league, just five points behind first-place Pumas de la UNAM. Forward Mauro Boselli tied with Queretaro's Emanuel Villa as the league's top scorer, with 13 goals each. Of three games in the pre-season against first-division teams, Juan Antonio Pizzi's men won two (Irapuato, 5-1; Coras de Tepic, 7-1) and lost one (Necaxa, 3-5).
For its part, Santos is out to improve upon its performance in Apertura 2015, which ended with the team in fifteenth place. Replacing Pako Ayestarán is Luis Zubeldía of Argentina, at 34 the youngest coach in the league. Also joining the team are Mexicans Diego de Buen and Ulises Dávila; Jorge Villafaña of the United States; and Argentine forward Martín Bravo.
