Fuse (www.fuse.tv), which recently announced a slate of new programming to extend beyond music, has greenlit six half-hour episodes of Transcendent, an all-new docu-series which documents the triumphs and struggles of what it's like to be transgender in America today. Set to premiere in THE FALL of this year, the series is produced by World of Wonder Productions, which also produces Big Freedia, now in its third season and the highest-rated series in the history of Fuse.
"Transcendent is yet another example of where the new
Fuse is headed as a network seeking to engage a diverse Millennial audience whose tastes know no cultural boundaries," said
Fuse Media, Inc. President Bill Hilary. "With the transgender community in the cultural zeitgeist, it is important to tell these stories with dignity and respect. We have worked with World of Wonder Productions on our #1 show Big Freedia, and I am thrilled to work with them on another series that recognizes and respects the LGBT community and also challenges the status quo of the traditional musical and artistic landscape found on television today."
"The first time we met the ladies of AsiaSF we were hooked," said World of Wonder Executive Producers Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey. "They're beautiful, brave and unapologetic. Each of them has such unique and compelling stories to tell. To document their lives is a dream come true."
Transcendent documents a 21st century cultural perspective by chronicling the multi-faceted lives of a group of bold and vibrant trans women who not only perform together at the world famous AsiaSF Cabaret and Restaurant in San Francisco (http://asiasf.com/) - but also have come together to create a surrogate family. As with the success of docu-series like World of Wonder Productions' Big Freedia, Transcendent will highlight the diversification of pop culture, gender identity and equality within the entertainment industry. This series will examine the lives of a group of career-driven woman who proudly dance and perform in one of the most sophisticated cabarets in California. Transcendent gives a new spin to living freely, conquering new beginnings and shamelessly creating your own destiny.
Transcendent is executive produced by Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey, Tom Campbell, Larry Hashbarger, Chris Shifflett, Brad Tiemann, and Cameron Kadison.
