Vulture reports that Regan Arts has announced this week that Francis Ford Coppola is reproducing his GODFATHER notebook for public consumption.
In a statement, the famed director commented, "This notebook was my private work reference to The Godfather film, and after many years, I'm excited to share it with those who may be interested."
The book will feature "initial impressions of Mario Puzo's novel of the same name, as well as ideas that would inform Coppola's creative process during production." It will be an estimated 720 pages long.
THE GODFATHER was originally published in 1969 by G. P. Putnam's Sons. It details the story of a fictional Mafia family based in New York City (andLong Beach, New York), headed by Don Vito Corleone, who became synonymous with the Italian Mafia. The novel covers the years 1945 to 1955, and also provides the back story of Vito Corleone from early childhood to adulthood.
The book inspired a 1972 film of the same name. Two film sequels, including new contributions by Puzo himself, were made in 1974 and 1990.
