FOX Networks recently trimmed its order of new TV show 'Mulaney' down to 13 episodes, three fewer than the original order of 16. The network called to shorten the season after airing only 2 episodes, Deadline reports.
Multi-camera show 'Mulaney' features an ensemble cast and follows the life of stand-up comic John Mulaney, who is trying to make it big as a comedian. Things change for MULANEY when he is hired by comedy legend and game show host Lou Cannon (Martin Short) as a writer. Cannon presents MULANEY with the opportunity he needs to rise up in show business, but turns out to be a nightmare to work with.
The show originally had an unusual order of 16 episodes, after FOX ordered 6 episodes last year and then added another 10 last spring when the network chose not to pick up any new comedies out of pilot season.
'Mulaney' received mixed reviews and got a slow start in the ratings, though it did see a ratings growth in week two. The show is, however, doing better that Fox's other comedy hopeful 'The Mindy Project,' which was renewed for a 15-episode third season.
The call to trim 'Mulaney' from 16 episodes to 13 came right as shooting had wrapped on episode 13, and just before episode 14 was set to begin filming. The show will continue to air in its usual 9:30pm EST timeslot.
