Fox has ordered a pilot from the reboot of "Alice," Variety has learned.
Writers and executive producers Diablo Cody and Liz Astrof will helm the show. In the series, Long Island housewife Alice Hyatt has finally worked up the courage to leave her cheating husband. She drives cross-country to Arizona with her teenage son Tommy, and gets a job as a waitress at a roadside diner where the staff becomes their new surrogate family.
"Alice," based on the 1974 film "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," ran for over 200 episodes on CBS in THE SEVENTIES and eighties. Linda Lavin starred as Alice, while Vic Tayback reprised his role as Mel from the film. The series famously introduced the catchphrase "Kiss my grits."
"Alice" is the latest reboot FOX has been developing over the past year. Last week, their reboot of "Kung Fu" was announced.
