As BWW previously reported, ABC's THE VIEW has experienced a recent shake-up involving hosts Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd, both of whom will be leaving the long-running morning talk show.
Since the news was announced, a flurry of speculation has began as to who will take over the now vacant hosting chairs. Everyone from Broadway's Idina Menzel, Bernadette Peters, Mario Cantone, and even Sarah Palin, are rumored to be in the running.
Now, TMZ confirms earlier rumors that former host Rosie O'Donnell is in "active negotiations" to return as a host for the show. Acccording to the site, "the deal could be sealed shortly and the announcement could be made as early as tomorrow."
O'Donnell left the show in 2007. Following her first season on the show, ABC revealed in a statement that it was unable to agree on contract terms with the comedian. In her own statement, O'Donnell, who famously exited the show following an on-air feud with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, shared, "my needs for the future just didn't dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me. They wanted me three years, I wanted one year and it just didn't work," she said then. "I'm not sad - I loved it here."
O'Donnell recently guest-starred on ABC Family's hit series The Fosters. The actress and repeat Tony Awards host has appeared on Broadway in GREASE, SEUSSICAL, and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and received the Isabelle Stevenson Award at this year's Tony Awards ceremony.
