Today FiveThirtyEight is launching the first episode of "Kitchen Table Politics," a five-part podcast series exploring the issues impacting most Americans and their wallets. The podcast, available within the existing FiveThirtyEight Elections feed, will introduce a new episode every Thursday for the next five weeks.
Hosted by senior writer Farai Chideya, the series will cover five different life stages from birth through retirement including: child care, education, wages and employment, health care and retirement. Each episode features a discussion with policy experts, including FiveThirtyEight staffers and outsiders, along with personal stories from listeners left by voicemail and edited for the podcast. Several messages are also featured online each week.
In today's installment, Chideya examines "the costs of having and raising children, including how federal, state and local governments treat paid leave when a child is born or adopted and the cost of childcare for working parents."
"Kitchen Table Politics" is produced and edited by Galen Druke, Simone Landon, and Jody Avirgan with help from Tony Chow and Lucina Melesio.
