Filmmaker Rob Williams to be Honored with Director's Artistic Achievement Award, 9/22

One of today's most widely respected gay filmmakers, writer-director Rob Williams will be honored with the Director's Artistic Achievement Award at the qFLIXphiladelphia Film Festival, it was announced. Williams will receive the award from the festival on Sept. 22 at the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, prior to the screening of his latest film, Out To Kill.

The inaugural film festival will present the prestigious award to Williams as part of its celebration of his body of work, which includes seven independent feature films over THE PAST nine years. His most recent film, the award-winning Out To Kill, will be the Closing Night film for the festival.

Out To Kill is a sexy murder mystery centered around a group of gay men living in a Tampa loft complex. When up-and-coming singer Justin Jaymes (played by real-life singer-songwriter Tom Goss) is found dead in the building's pool, his NEIGHBORS enlist the help of resident private eye Jim Noble (played by Scott Sell), to track down the killer. With its surprise ending and tropical location, the film offers a sexy, gay twist to the traditional murder mystery genre.

Trailblazers in the independent LGBT film genre, Williams and his partner Rodney Johnson launched Guest House Films, a Los Angeles-based film production and distribution house, in 2005. Since then, Williams has written, directed and produced seven feature films, and Guest House Films has successfully ventured into distribution with the release of an ongoing series of short-film compilations - Black Briefs, Blue Briefs and Green Briefs - in addition to the award-winning Australian documentary, The Doctor's Wife, and their own productions, including Role/Play, The Men Next Door, the recent re-release of the first Guest House Films movie Long-Term Relationship, and the upcoming release of Out To Kill.

Williams was honored with a career retrospective as the "Filmmaker in Focus" at the 2012 KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival, and has been named one of Instinct Magazine's "Leading Men" for his contributions to gay cinema. Out To Kill won First Prize, Alternative Spirit Award (LGBTQ) Feature at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, and was the "Director's Showcase" selection at Out Here Now: the Kansas City LGBT Film Festival.
