Fathom Events brings the return of an important and inspiring voice to the ongoing healthy eating conversation with a special event featuring wellness wizard Joe Cross' newest documentary "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2." Returning four years after his much acclaimed first film, which made a strong case for the benefits of a vegetable and fruit juice diet, "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2" comes to select cinemas nationwide for one night at 7:30 p.m. local time on Thursday, Sept. 18. Cross and his team expand their investigation to explore broader themes of how to achieve - and maintain - a healthy life, beyond just dietary choices. In addition to the enlightening documentary feature, audiences at the Fathom Events presentation will receive 20 minutes of theater-only content to help shape their thinking on eating habits and their health.
Tickets for "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2" are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. The event will be presented in more than 520 select movie theaters around the country through Fathom's Digital Broadcast Network. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).
In 2010, Cross debuted a powerful yet simple notion - that the healing power of fresh juice from fruits and vegetables could be a potent answer to the global epidemics of chronic illness and obesity - in his engaging documentary "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead." It followed the Australian's 60-day journey across America to spread his belief in the restorative power of a diet consisting solely of fruit and vegetable juice using himself as the test subject. Cross not only lost a substantial amount of weight, but also rid his body of a chronic and debilitating auto-immune disease that had stumped his doctors.
"Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2" is an information-filled, highly entertaining documentary revisiting people Joe encountered on his first U.S. tour, and looking at the relative impact juicing has had on their lives. With input from friends, family members and the medical community, "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2" delves into the crucial role family and community support play in maintaining a healthy life style.
"I'm thrilled that the one-night Fathom event will allow a live audience to come together to watch 'Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2,' a movie that illustrates how important communities are to a healthy, happy life," Joe Cross said. "When I embarked on my journey and changed my life by juicing, I could never have dreamed that 'Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead' would reach an audience of almost 20 million and growing. The first film's success and the millions of followers around the world illustrate how profoundly people Crave solutions presented in an accessible and engaging way. It's my hope that the sequel strikes the same chord with audiences on September 18, and accelerates the movement toward greater health and wellbeing."
"Joe Cross is both a charismatic leader and a passionate, persuasive advocate for healthful living" Fathom Events' executive vice president Shelly Maxwell said. "This is an important documentary and we're sure 'Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2' will once again connect with audiences hungry for more information about how to eat and live a better, healthier life."
