FX has ordered the first season of the comedy series Better Things, co-created by and starring Pamela Adlon, it was announced today by Eric Schrier and Nick Grad, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions. Adlon will serve as an Executive Producer alongside Co-Creator Louis C.K., Blair Breard, Dave Becky and 3 Arts Entertainment. Adlon and C.K. wrote the pilot, which was directed by C.K. The 10-episode first season will be produced by C.K.'s production company Pig Newton for FX Productions.
What's it like to be a working woman raising three daughters on her own? Don't ask. Ok. Since you asked. Things get gnarly. And bloody. And funny. Well to you, anyway. In Better Things, Adlon plays "Sam," a working actor with no filter trying to earn a living, navigate her daughters' lives, have fun with a friend or two, and also - just maybe - squeeze in some private time once in a while. Her life is funny to watch, but you wouldn't want to live it (except sometimes).
"Pamela is one of the sharpest and most endearing actresses working in television today and we are thrilled she has joined forces with Louis to create a series that is raw, personal and incredibly funny," said Schrier.
"I'm incredibly grateful to John Landgraf and all the folks at
FX and excited to work with them to explore the real and funny truths of being a single working mom," Adlon said.
In addition to Adlon, Better Things will star Mikey Madison, Riley Watson, and Olivia Edward as the three daughters.
Adlon (Louie, Californication) is currently nominated for an Emmy(R) Award for Outstanding Guest Actress In a Comedy Series for Louie. She has previously received two Emmy nominations for Louie, and she won an Emmy for her voice-over performance on King of the Hill. Her work on
LOUIE has also resulted in a WGA Award and two PGA Award nominations.
LOUIE is currently nominated for six Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series.
