FX is continuing along its path of limited, high-budget series, ordering a new adaptation of James Fenimore Cooper's THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS from 1826, The Hollywood Reporter has announced.
The project will follow the birth of America as a nation "through the eyes of Cooper's classic characters from the historical novel." The novel is set in 1757 during the French and Indian War.
Chris Cowe, who co-wrote the film adaptation in 1992 featuring Daniel Day Lewis, has signed on to pen the script. Developers Kerry McCluggage and Steve Beck will also assist.
MOHICANS, should it be picked up to series, will join FX's slate alongside a new adaptation of the Coen brothers' FARGO, Stephen Gaghan's THEY MARCHED INTO THE SUNLIGHT, as well as Guillermo del Toro's THE STRAIN.
