The Chicago Cubs' 5-1 defeat of the Cleveland Indians in Game 2 of the 2016 WORLD SERIES on Wednesday night tied the series at a game apiece and netted an 11.3/19 overnight rating/share on FOX, according to Nielsen Media Research. Despite a one-hour accelerated start time due to an approaching weather system, the 11.3 overnight figure marks the highest-rated WORLD SERIES Game 2 since 2009 (Philadelphia Phillies-New York Yankees - 13.6/22).
The overnight rating showed a +22% increase over Game 2 of the 2015
WORLD SERIES between the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals (vs. 9.3/15) and a +28% gain over Game 2 of the 2014
WORLD SERIES between
THE ROYALS and the San Francisco Giants (vs. 8.8/14).
From 8:00 PM ET to 11:00 PM ET, the game averaged a 12.3/20 rating/share, easily winning prime time among the broadcast networks for the second consecutive night and projecting to be FOX's best performance on a Wednesday night since October of 2014.
The local markets showed impressive strength once again as Cleveland led all markets with a 38.9/55 for Game 2, while Chicago posted a 35.4/52.
Fast Nationals have been ordered for last night's Game 2 and will be made available later today.
