FOX has announced they will have guests judges fill-in for outgoing American Idol judge Paula Abdul, and will have a permanent replacement before live "Idol" episodes begin next year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

KaTy Perry and Victoria Beckham have already signed on to fill-in for Abdul, and other guest judges will be announced in the coming weeks.

"Our intention is to have guest judges be female pop stars, female performers," said Rice at the Television Critics Association's press tour in Pasadena. "Between now and January we will come up with a more permanent solution. We feel between now and then we will come up with a replacement for Paula. There's obviously going to be a different dynamic next year."

Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly added, "Paula was the right person with the right chemistry. When shows are this successful it's very easy to take for granted the level of producing that goes into the show ... I'm not saying it's easy -- you're messing with chemistry that works -- but we're pretty confident that producers will find that."

Former American Idol judge Paula Abdul is already set to appear on another television show. The pop star will film a second guest-starring appearance for Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva," the new hit comedic drama series from executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Abdul will shoot her new scenes today, August 6th in Atlanta.

Earlier today, Fox released a statement confirming the departure of Paula Abdul from American Idol which states: "Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons, and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she's a tremendous talent and we wish her the best."

Paula Abdul is one of the most recognized pop singers and choreographers of our day. Her celebrated work in choreography for television includes Emmy-winning contributions to The Tracey Ullman Show, Paula's own performance on The American Music Awards and her choreography for The Academy Awards, for which she earned an Emmy nomination. Paula's choreography contributions in feature films include the Academy Award-winning American Beauty, working with Cuba Gooding Jr. on his Academy Award-winning performance in Jerry Maguire, and transforming Val Kilmer into Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's The Doors.

Paula's music career encompasses worldwide album sales exceeding 30 million records, two No. 1 albums, six No. 1 singles, a Grammy Award, seven MTV Awards, two Emmy Awards, two People's Choice Awards and two Kids' Choice Awards. She has been honored with a star on Hollywood Boulevard, and was inducted into Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Hall of Fame.

Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva," the new hit comedic drama series from executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, continues to earn raves worldwide.

The show recently premiered in Australia and the Sydney Morning Herald has praised the new series, proclaiming it "scores all its wins in small touches: a dry, almost Ally McBeal-esque sense of humour, a warm and gentle sensibility, a very positive and powerful message and a fantastic cast."

The paper continues its rave, adding, "Drop Dead Diva is not just an engaging, delightful and sometimes touching comedy-drama, it's also nicely timed. We are tired of The Hills and Gossip Girl. We are tired of watching excruciatingly skinny, excruciatingly narcissistic people on television. And it's about time the scoreboard read Fatties 1, Toothpicks 0."

Lifetime's new one-hour comedic drama series, Drop Dead Diva, became the Network's highest-rated original drama series debut across key demographics since the June 3, 2007 launch of the hit drama Army Wives. The July 12, 2009, premiere of Drop Dead Diva averaged a 1.6 rating, a 148% increase from the 9:00 PM time period's prior four-week average, among the highly coveted advertiser demographic of Women 18-49 and a 1.9 among Women 25-54, a 158% increase from the prior four week average. In Households, Drop Dead Diva scored a 2.2 rating, up 103% from the prior four week time period and averaged more than 2.8 million total viewers, a 129% jump from the prior same four weeks.

The 2007 debut episode of Army Wives secured a 2.1 rating in Women 18-49 rating, 2.3 in Women 25-54 and 2.8 Household rating, averaging over 3.4 million total viewers. The show is the highest rated series in Lifetime history, and one of the top rated dramas for women on basic cable. Last Sunday's July 5 episode of Army Wives was the number two rated telecast among all basic cable in Women 18-49 for that week.

Last night's episode of Army Wives, which followed Drop Dead Diva's premiere at 10:00 PM, delivered a 2.3 rating in Women 18-49, up 7% from its season-to-date average and generated a 2.7 rating in Women 25-54, the highest in that demo this season, up 12% from its season-to-date average. Army Wives earned a 3.0 Household rating, up 4% from the season-to-date average and drew more 3.8 million total viewers, up 11% from its season-to-date average.

Television newcomer and stage actress Brooke Elliott (Wicked, Taboo) stars alongside Margaret Cho (Notorious C.H.O.), Jackson Hurst (The Tree of Life), Kate Levering (Cashmere Mafia), April Bowlby (Two and a Half Men), Josh Stamberg (Lie to Me), Brooke D'Orsay (How I Met Your Mother) and Ben Feldman (The Perfect Man). The 13-episode series is not simply a "feel good" show, but rather a "feel everything" comedy.

Press notes describe, "When beautiful-but-vapid model wannabe Deb (D'Orsay) has a fatal car accident, she suddenly finds herself in front of Heaven's gatekeeper, Fred (Feldman), who declares her a self-centered "zero." Outraged, she attempts to persuade Fred to return her to her shallow existence but is accidentally relegated to the body of the recently deceased Jane Bingum (Elliott). A brilliant, thoughtful and plus-size attorney with a loyal assistant, Teri (Cho), Jane has always lived in the shadow of her more comely colleagues whereas Deb has always relied on her external beauty. Now, by a twist of fate and a bolt of divine intervention, Deb must come to terms with inhabiting Jane's curvier frame in the ultimate showdown between brains and beauty."

Guest stars throughout the first season of Drop Dead Diva include Liza Minnelli, Paula Abdul, Rosie O'Donnell, Tim Gunn, Sharon Lawrence, Kathy Najimy, Jorja Fox, Teri Polo, Elliott Gould, Chuck Woolery and Diedrich Bader.

Drop Dead Diva showcases Lifetime's long-standing commitment to raising awareness about issues that matter most to women. In partnership with women's non-profit organizations, including Step Up Women's Network and The National Association of Women Lawyers, Lifetime will guide a public discussion about stereotypes, work/life balance and being healthy at every size.
