Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination launched today a Twitter Card experience offering movie fans the opportunity to learn about current and upcoming films - including the film's stars, rating, opening date, and more - directly from certain movie-related Tweets online or on their mobile devices. From the Twitter Card, fans can also tap a button to go to Fandango and quickly purchase tickets. The first films to take advantage of this new Card are two of the summer's most anticipated movies, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and "Godzilla," debuting in theaters on May 2 and May 16 respectively, with advance tickets currently on sale on Fandango.
"Twitter is one of the most powerful social mediums for movie discovery and content sharing and we are thrilled to be the first to connect moviegoers to ticketing opportunities directly on the platform," said Paul Yanover, President of Fandango. "We are excited to see how movie studios, users and others take advantage of this Twitter Card for new releases, to the benefit of all film fans."
Twitter Cards make it possible to attach rich media experiences to Tweets. When users tap a Tweet with a unique Fandango URL either online or from their mobile device, a Twitter Card will be displayed featuring movie poster art, film facts and a "buy tickets" button connecting directly to Fandango's website.
This news follows Fandango's recent announcements at CinemaCon, where the company renewed its exclusive multi-year agreement with Cinemark, representing more than 4,400 U.S. screens, and signed five new exhibitors Malco Theatres, Frank Theatres, Goodrich Quality Theaters, NCG Cinemas and Paragon Theaters, bringing online and mobile ticketing to more than 1,000 additional screens in over a dozen states. Fandango now tickets for more than 23,000 U.S. screens, representing 83% of the nation's theaters with online ticketing capabilities.
