Deadline.com reports that actor Ewan McGregor is set to star in the pilot for the upcoming HBO series THE CORRECTIONS.

The drama, from Noah Baumbach and Scott Rudin, will mark McGregor's first venture into series TV. The actor had previously made a guest appearance on the NBC drama ER which earned him an Emmy nomination.   Actors Chris Cooper and Dianne Wiest will be attached to the project as well.

THE CORRECTIONS will focus on the tale of a troubled Midwestern couple who have three grown children.  It will cover the family's lives beginning in the mid-20th century up until their last Christmas together at the turn of the millennium.

McGregor will appear in the role of Chip, the family's middle son.  Chip is a Marxist acadmic whose affair with a student cost him his tenure and forced him to take a very different career path with a Lituanian crime mob that cheats American investors out of their money. Noah Baumbach co-wrote the script and is set to direct the pilot episode.

McGregor has appeared in such films as Trainspotting and Star Wars.  He will be seen in the upcoming film Salmon Fishing In The Yemen.
