BIRD BOX follows a blindfolded woman and two children making their way down-river in a post-apocalyptic world.

The film is based on Malerman's first novel, which was picked up by HarperCollins' Ecco in August and will hit the shelves in 2014.

Heisserer has penned screenplays for The Thing, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Final Destination 5, and Story of Your Life, which is currently in development. The writer also just finished directing Hours, which he also wrote, starring Paul Walker and Genesis Rodriguez.
