Elle Fanning, Chloe Moretz and Hailee Steinfeld Up for Role of Young 'Jean Grey' in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE?

The Wrap reports that Elle Fanning, Chloe Grace Moretz and Hailee Steinfeld are being considered for the role of 'Jean Grey' in the upcoming X-MEN: APOCALYPSE movie, set to hit theaters in 2016. Up for young 'Cyclops' are actors Ben Hardy, Charlie Rowe and Timothee Chalamet.

Famke Janssen starred as grown-up Grey in five of the X-MEN films; Haley Ramm played her role in X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. James Marsden (four films) and Tim Pocock (one) have taken on the role of Cyclops. The characters form a central love story in the X-MEN universe.

Bryan Singer directs APOCALYPSE from a script by Simon Kinberg. The movie will pick up ten years after DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, where "the altering of time has unleashed a new and uniquely powerful enemy. Charles (James McAvoy), Erik/Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Hank/Beast (Nicholas Hoult) are joined by young Cyclops, Storm, Jean and others as the X-Men must fight their most formidable foe yet: an ancient unrelenting force determined to cause an apocalypse unlike any in human history."

X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST featured Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender,James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halley Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, Lucas Till and Evan Jonigkeit.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will hit theaters on May 27, 2016.

Fanning's upcoming projects include Trumbo, Three Generations, How to Talk to Girls at Parties, A Storm in the Stars, Live by Night and All the Bright Places. She recently starred in Maleficent opposite Angelina Jolie.

Moretz last starred on the big screen in If I Stay and has been tapped for the upcoming movies Dark Places and The Fifth Wave. Among her past credits are Carrie, the Kick-Ass films, Hugo and more.

Steinfeld will next be seen in Term Life, Ten Thousand Saints, Barely Lethal and Pitch Perfect 2. She recently appeared in The Keeping Room, The Homesman, 3 Days to Kill, Ender's Game, Romeo & Juliet, Begin Again, Hateship Loveship and more. She made her big screen debut in True Grit.
