According to the Hollywood Reporter, Elisabeth Moss and Michael Stuhlbarg are set to stay in upcoming psychological thriller Shirley, based on the life of horror writer Shirley Jackson.
Moss (Handmaid's Tale) will play the title character of Shirley Jackson, an American gothic horror writer best known for her short story THE LOTTERY and the novel THE HAUNTING OF Hill House. Moss will also produce Shirley, which portrays a reclusive Jackson and her husband, literary critic Stanley Edgar Hyman, to be played by Stuhlbarg (Call Me By Your Name).
Sarah Gubbins adapted Susan Scarf Merrell's psychological thriller Shirley for the movie's screenplay. Also sharing producer credits on Shirley is Jeffrey Soros, Simon Horsman, Christine Vachon, David Hinojosa, Sue Naegle and Gubbins.
Moss is known for her roles as Zoey Bartlet, the youngest daughter of President Josiah Bartlet, on the NBC television series The West Wing (1999-2006); Peggy Olson, secretary-turned-copywriter on the AMC series MAD MEN (2007-2015), which earned her six Emmy Awards nominations and one Golden Globe nomination. She also starred as Det. Robin Griffin in the BBC miniseries TOP OF THE LAKE (2013, 2017), a role which won her a Golden Globe and Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Film. The Handmaid's Tale Actress has also appeared on Broadway in Speed the Plow and The Heidi Chronicles.
