According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elisabeth Moss will join Tiffany Haddish and Melissa McCarthy in The Kitchen. The New Line feature is an adaptation of the DC/Vertigo female-fronted crime comic book series of the same name from Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle.
Set in in Hell's Kitchen, New York, in the 1970s, Kitchen follows the wives of Irish mobsters, who end up taking over and running the business after the FBI does a sweep of the mafia, and several men are arrested.
McCarthy is an adoring mother who leads the women's charge to take over the business while Haddish plays a woman willing to kill anyone in the way of her plan. Moss will play a timid wife of an abusive husband who falls in love with the violence of her new life.
Straight Outta Compton co-writer Andrea Berloff is making her directorial debut with the movie, which she also wrote. Michael De Luca is producing The Kitchen, which will hit theaters Sept. 20, 2019.
Elisabeth Moss most recently appeared on Broadway in 2015's THE HEIDI CHRONICLES. She also starred in the 2008 revival of SPEED THE PLOW. Moss is also known for her roles as Zoey Bartlet, the youngest daughter of President Josiah Bartlet, on the NBC television series The West Wing (1999-2006); Peggy Olson, secretary-turned-copywriter on the AMC series MAD MEN (2007-2015), which earned her six Emmy Awards nominations and one Golden Globe nomination. She also starred as Det. Robin Griffin in the BBC miniseries TOP OF THE LAKE (2013, 2017), a role which won her a Golden Globe and Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Film.
