Ed Harris is confirmed to star in the new movie directed and written by Milk's Dustin Lance Black, "What's Wrong With Virginia," also featuring his wife Amy Madigan, Jennifer Connelly and Emma Roberts. Harris is replacing Liam Neeson, who was originally cast in the role of a sheriff whose state senate bid is threatened when his daughter starts dating the son of a disturbed woman (Connelly) with whom he has been having a two-decade affair.
Black will again team up with Gus Van Sant who directed "Milk." Black will be making his directorial debut. Van Sant is executive producing, along with TicTock Studios and partner Scott Brooks. The film will be shot in west Michigan, the producers being lured there by tax credit incentives and the chance to help bolster the local economy. Much of the casting was also done locally.
Ed Harris is an actor, writer and director, known for his performances in Appaloosa, Creepshow, The Rock, The Right Stuff, Enemy at the Gates, The Abyss, Glengarry GLen Ross, Apollo 13, Pollock, A Beautiful Mind, The Hours, Milk Money, and The Truman Show, among many others. Harris received a Tony Award nomination, Drama Desk Award, and Theater World Award for Precious Sons and most recently on Broadway in Taking Sides. His other stage credits include the Off-Broadway plays Fool For Love, Simpatico, and Wrecks. He has received Academy Award nominations for The Hours, Pollock, The Truman Show, and Apollo 13.
Madigan played Stella in the 1992 Broadway revival of A Streetcar Named Desire and starred in the 1990 L.A. production of Eduardo Machado's Stevie Wants to Play the Blues. She received an Academy Award nomination for Twice in a Lifetime.
