E! has canceled THE ROYALS after four seasons, according to Variety.
A spokesperson for E! told Variety, "E! will not be moving forward with another season of 'The Royals,' which launched in 2015 as the network's first original scripted series. Over four seasons, 'The Royals' took viewers behind the palace gates on a scandalous journey filled with twists and turns. We are grateful to the cast and our producing partners at Lionsgate and Universal Cable Productions."
"The Royals" followed a fictional modern day royal family as they find love, conspire against one another, and are forced to face long-hidden secrets, all in the name of the crown.
The fourth season of "The Royals" picks up after the charming, potentially duplicitous, Prince Robert (Max Brown) is crowned King of England. Prince Liam (William Moseley) and his recently dethroned uncle Cyrus (Jake Maskall) form an unlikely alliance, Queen Helena (Elizabeth Hurley) struggles to control her unruly brood as she figures out her role in the palace. And, after a heated on again-off again relationship, bodyguard Jasper (Tom Austen) tries to capture Princess Eleanor's (Alexandra Park) heart one more time just as they are about to face their biggest obstacle yet. The series also stars Genevieve Gaunt as Wilhelmina. From Lionsgate and UCP, "The Royals" is executive produced by Brian Robbins, Joe Davola ("One Tree Hill," "Smallville"), and Shauna Phelan.
The cancellation comes after Mark Schwahn, series creator and showrunner, was fired from the show in December after Variety reported on detailed allegations of sexual harassment during his time on "One Tree Hill." Cast and crew of "The Royals" also said in a letter that Schwahn engaged in "repeated unwanted sexual harassment of multiple female members of cast and crew."
